24th March 2007
Kite buggying - boarding: Minnis Bay
Wind Direction: N - NE
Wind Stength: 20-25mph
Surf / Sea State:
Air Temperature: 8
Sea Temperature:
Weather: Overcast
Max Speed: 37.1 mph (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 63.7 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

I left home at 6am as low tide was at 0950, was on the beach at 8am, put up the 2.8m first but was too overpowered given the beach at Minnis is very narrow and there is little margin for error, had a few scary fast runs maxing out at 36mph. Changed down to the 2.2m, still a little overpowered than I would have liked given the location but had some good fast runs maxing out at 37.1mph. By about 10am there were a few dog walkers, while trying to scrub off speed in a powerslide so I could turn away from one I had my first OBE for about 2 years, I kicked into a powerslide fine and lost enough speed and then went for the turn but had the kite too high and got lofted right out the buggy landing on the sand on my side, no major damage, just a big bruise. As the number of dog walkers was increasing I change down to the 1.4m for a little more control, initially I was underpowered on this but after about half an hour the wind picked up and I was nicely powered and got some more good runs in. Packed up after 12 just as the tide was beginning to cover the hard sand.

Beach conditions in general were good, there wasn’t the usual soft sand by the setup area but unfortunately the chalky rocks are normally quite well covered by sand but today they weren’t so there were lots of chalk to avoid if you ventured further out so no chance of a Reculver run today.

I was the only kiter on the land (a few nutters were on the water) so it was cool to think that all 63.7 miles of tyre tracks on the beach at the end of the day were mine!

So the memorable parts of todays classic 4 hour session were my first OBE for 2 years and the most number of miles I have ever done in a session in the UK (and possibly even more than I have ever done in France).
